Dr. Sumita Raghuram is the Endowed Professor of Human Resource Management at San Jose State University, USA. She has studied remote work since 1993. Some of her studies include impact of individual characteristics, such as, need for affiliation, self-efficacy, and demographics on successful adjustment to remote work and work-family balance. These were published in Journal of Management and Human Resource Management. Her study on the impact of communication media and impact on organizational identification of remote workers was published in Organization Science. A study on impact of organizational commitment and technology support on knowledge sharing of remote workers was published in the Journal of Organization Behavior
More recently, in a review article in Academy of Management Annals, Sumita and her colleagues bring together the domains of computer-mediated communication, telecommuting, virtual teams in an integrative review and identify several research opportunities. Currently, she is examining gender-based biases impacting the careers of remote workers.
